15 Students arrested for beating alleged gay classmate to death

15 students between the ages of 17 and 19, were arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command after reports that they beat a classmate to death over his alleged sexual orientation.

The Vanguard is reporting that the Jigawa State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Jinjiri Abdu, confirmed the story to news men. According to him, the students involved were from the Government Science and Technical College, Karkarna and were arrested on August 8, 2017.

The arrested students formed a disciplinary committee after they suspected one of their classmates to be gay. The suspects allegedly took the deceased to a nearby bush at about 2:30 am in the morning were they beat him with sticks. His lifeless body was found the following morning and he was declared dead at the hospital. 

The police have said that investigation has commenced and the suspects will be charged to court.
