South Africa’s Queer Fashion Designers and Trans Activists Subverting masculinity

On the the second episode of Out Of This World, Mykki Blanco explores fashion in Johannesburg to learn how South Africa’s queer fashion activists are subverting masculinity. He meets local designer Rich Mnisi, a fashion designer breaking outdated notions on masculinity and model Luke van der Burg in a hair salon to discuss what is means to be young and trans in South Africa. Once the looks are complete, they head out to the Soweto-based set of Rich’s SS18 look book with a modelling cameo from Mykki Blanco.
