‘Call Me by Your Name’ is getting a sequel; Film will tackle HIV/AIDS

Critically acclaimed drama, ‘Call Me by Your Name’ is getting a sequel.

The film’s director, Luca Guadagnino, told The Hollywood Reporter that HIV/AIDS will be tackled in the sequel adding that “I think it’s going to be a very relevant part of the story.”

“I think Elio [Timothee Chalamet] will be a cinephile, and I’d like him to be in a movie theater watching Paul Vecchiali’s Once More,” a 1988 film about a man who falls in love with a man after he leaves his wife, which was the first French movie to deal with AIDS. “That,” said Guadagnino, “could be the first scene [in the sequel].”

‘Call Me by Your Name’ is currently nominated for Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards. It won the Best Adapted Screenplay prize at the 23rd Critics’ Choice Award.
