“My body is strong but my soul is stronger,” Jussie Smollett speaks about the attack

About a week after the racist and homophobic attack on actor, Jussie Smollett, he has released his first statement to reassure everyone that he’s recovering and thankful for the support he’s received over the last few days.

As earlier reported on the Rustin Times, Jussie Smollett was stopped while reportedly exiting a Subway restaurant in the 300 E North Water St by two men wearing ski masks who began yelling racial and homophobic slurs.

“They then placed a noose around his neck and began to punch him after which they poured an unknown substance on him,” police added. After which Smollett took himself to the hospital.

“Let me start by saying that I’m ok. My body is strong but my soul is stronger.” Jussie began in his official statement released by his publicist. “More importantly, I want to say thank you. The outpouring of love and support from my village has meant more than I will ever be able to truly put into words.”

“I am working with authorities and have been 100% factual and consistent on every level. Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served. As my family stated, these types of cowardly attacks are happening to my sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming siblings daily. I am not and should not be looked upon as an isolated incident. We will talk soon and I will address all details of this horrific incident but I need a moment to process. Most importantly, during times of trauma, grief and pain, there is still a responsibility to lead with love. It’s all I know. And that can’t be kicked out of me.”

The Chicago Police have also recently released footage of two “potential persons of interest” who were seen in the area at the time of the attack. According to the police, the video does not depict an assault, but the people are “seen in the vicinity of the alleged criminal incident during the alleged time of occurrence.”

“We have received a lot of information from citizens based on the photos and are focusing resources on the most serious ones,” an individual involved with the FBI-assisted case says.

CNN’s Don Lemon spoke to a spokesman for Jussie Smollett who confirmed that he is out of the hospital and home recovering.
