With May came a part of my anxiety disorder I never knew existed. Before now, I hadn’t been able to imagine the ways my mind and body could turn against each other. How neither would refuse to work with the other, chasing their gratifications in vastly divergent ways, demanding unhealthy attention, and stretching out the…
1.This is really important, which of course is why it is the first thing up here, as it rules every thought, ideology, perception and action that homophobes and prospective ones live by when it comes to us LGBTQ persons. Which is to have absolutely no/ridiculously minimal knowledge of what it means for people to exist…
In the article I didn’t write I was going to talk about our ever dynamic LGBT community, and its cliquey nature. The ways that it can segregate, divide, withhold, complicate, implicate, and exist in various elitist, sometimes sectarian, and mostly inaccessible holds. In the beginning of the article, I was going to draw from Alexander…
I know you most definitely have heard this a billion times, you probably feel it in the tender structure of your guts, or are just at that crossroads (tough I know, necessary too) between societal ‘logic’ and the irrepressible come-to of your person. It is important that we remind ourselves, over, and over again, that…
So, I saw your tweets as regards the inevitability of LGBT persons getting married due to either family pressure or a sense of frustration (I am not sure that is what you said exactly, but it leaned towards that). Quite typical of the looming ideology of most average Nigerian gay persons, I must say. But…
The last time we meet, he gives me his shirt to mend for him as an alibi, asks me to not to make too much noise (as usual) when we go to wash up in the bathroom, and keeps a straight face when he walks me out the gate. This isn’t news, it happens to…
*Found myself in the most organic way possible, like I playfully kissed a boy at a birthday party in his house, and everyone clapped, cheered, and basically found it adorably funny. *Grew up with that memory, not as a chanced mystery never to be forgotten, but a medley of the unperturbed budding of my soul….
When asked, I usually just say I broke up with my American boyfriend who I was in a cyber space affair with, because it felt at the time like the most necessary thing to have done, as I had begun to remind myself, too many times, that I was supposed to be in love with…
One of the most imperative perks of being a writer is that, ultimately- after existing and preexisting in our respectively curated worlds- one is still a human being. And so, if not natural in this creative sphere, is prone to a subconsciously unending process of self – assessment, because one thing is certain; we are…
What is a label? It seems simply to me, a construct in any form, out to classify, grade, and shelve fragmental phenomenons, into a coalesced material for easy appropriation. On one hand, it might seem a well calculated agenda at personal restriction, in how comfortable our socially recognized identities makes us, in such that we…
It usually is something; a force we try to turn away from, for several, dissimilar reasons, we tend to need this enclosure like breathing. Under a different circumstance- one in which homophobic attacks were merely relatable events from other people’s lives; like staring into an old photograph where everybody else except me has changed drastically,…
I am a tweet. A few nimble fingers just sew me together to add to a thread, or, be as an illustrious stand alone. * I am here. But not in a powerful point of essence. Sometimes I make myself out in the impressions of shadows; altered, incomplete, marred or made, depending on the mood….
