South Africa’s The Wound Set for U.S Release

John Trengove’s The Wound is set for it’s U.S release.

It chronicles the initiation rites of a South African tribe, as tradition and modernity collide when an urbanized businessman from Johannesburg resolves to expose his 17-year-old son to the circumcision ceremony of his old tribe.

The critically acclaimed film has been in the news not just for screening at international film festivals but stirring up boycotts from the Xhosa community. Even one of the film stars, Nakhane has been a subject to homophobia online.

Still, the film is doing well. It just screened at the Durban Film Fest and the official poster and trailer has finally been unveiled ahead of its U.S. release.
