Labour Councillor Chika Amadi suspended following homophobic comments

Chika Amadi, a Labour Councillor who sits on the Harrow council has been suspended for her homophobic comments on Social Media. According to The Guardian UK, she called Pride Marchers “paedophiles” and threatened to unleash the “burning anger” of God on her critics.

A spokesperson for the Labour Party said she has been suspended and is under investigation.

In a Facebook post, the British-Nigerian councillor shared a quote from the president of the Gambia in which he threatened gay men and women with prison. The quote says “Homosexuality is anti-humanity. I have never seen a homosexual chicken, or turkey. If you are convicted of homosexuality in this country, there will be no mercy for offenders. We will put you in the female wing of the prison.”

Amadi who is also an Evangelical Pastor seems not to back down from her comments. She shared this on Twitter.

Co-chairs of LGBT Labour, Ian Dylan Thomas and Sarah Kerton also issued a separate statement calling the comments “offensive, distasteful and homophobic.”
