Aderonke Apata granted asylum in the UK following 13-year battle

Following an intense 13-year battle, Nigerian gay rights activist Aderonke Apata has been granted asylum in the United Kingdom.

Apata had spent the past 13 years trying to prove her sexuality and was denied asylum in 2015 when a high court judge accused her of lying about her sexuality.

She shared the news on social media.

Aderonke was presented with an Attitude Pride Award last month for her activism for the LGBT community.
