Daniela Vega will make history as the first openly transgender person to present at the Oscars

The Academy has released the list of presenters at the 2018 edition of the Oscars and Daniela Vega will make history as the first openly transgender person to present at the ceremony.

The Chilean actress and singer received critical acclaim for her acting debut in Sebastián Lelio’s A Fantastic Woman. While she wasn’t nominated, the film scored a nomination in the best foreign film category.

“Whether returning to the Oscars stage, or gracing it for the first time, each of these artists bring their own distinguishing and energetic appeal,” Oscar telecast producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd said in a statement. “Their contributions will make for an unforgettable evening.”

The 90th edition of the Academy Awards, takes place on Sunday, March 4 with Jimmy Kimmel returning as host.
