The Ake Festival is one of Nigeria’s foremost literary events that focuses on arts, literature and culture. Themed ‘Fantastical Futures,’ the 2018 edition is focusing on a reimagined African future while examine discussions around governance, gender and sexuality, literacy and education, health and well-being.
One of the discussions was titled ‘The Fear of Queer’ and it focused on issues surrounding people in the LGBT community from erasure to visibility and acceptance. The panel was moderated by Timehin Adegbeye and featured Chitra Nagarajan & Azeenarh Mohammed (Editors of She Called Me Woman) Also featured on the panel was Nigerian writer and visual artist, Eloghosa Osunde.
