Described by Wikipedia as a Puerto Rican trap musician, the first openly gay Latin trap artist and popularly known for his gender non-conforming looks and his debut video Soy Asi (I’m Like This), which has amassed more than over 700 thousand YouTube views (at the time of this report), Kevin Fret aged 24 has been shot dead in the capital, San Juan.
Kevin Fret was shot at eight times while riding a motorbike in the street, and he was hit in the head and hip around 5:30 a.m. local time and later died at the Medical Center of Río Piedras, the BBC reports.
His manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, who confirmed his death said “There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go. We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.“
Kevin Fret stepped into fame after the release of his single, ‘Soy Asi’ a song that Billboard describes as “a powerful trap tune that highlighted his fierce personality.”
In a previous interview with Rapetón, Kevin Fret said his objective as a gay Latin trap artist was to mark the difference in the game and open the doors to other emerging artists in the LGBTQ community.
Agents from the Criminal Investigation Corps of San Juan are continuing to investigate his murder.
