Awarded winner of the Outstanding Film category at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards, and Comedy Movie of 2018 by Teen Choice Awards amongst many others, ‘Love, Simon’ is a 2018 American romantic teen comedy-drama centred on Simon Spier (acted by Nick Robinson), a 17-year old closeted gay high school boy. In the movie, Simon is forced to balance his friends, his family, and the blackmailer threatening to out him to the entire school, while simultaneously attempting to discover the identity of the anonymous classmate with whom he has fallen in love online.
Based on reports by Variety, The Rustin Times has learnt that ‘Love, Simon’ is being adapted by upcoming over-the-top subscription video-on-demand television network, Disney+ for TV Series.
“Disney acquired the rights to the original YA novel Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda during its takeover of 21st Century Fox. The movie’s original director, Greg Berlanti, who is also behind shows like Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will executive produce,” Out Magazine reports.
It is still unknown whether the intended TV series will feature new faces or it will be a continuation of the actors from the original movie however, the movie’s screenwriters Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker are also involved in the series.
No date has been announced for the producrion of the TV series or it’s release. Disney+ has also declined any official announcements about the TV Series for Love, Simon.
