“The Couch” Episode 10: LGBTQI Disrimination – What to do? with Special Guest Nelson Aswani

Nature Network is thrilled to announce The Couch (Episode 10) is now available on-line.

Episode 10 of The Couch focuses on the issue of discrimnation against LGBTQI persons, and our hosts interview entrepreneur Nelson Aswani. The topic of the episode is “Discrimination in terms of opportunities for LGBTIQ persons: What could be a way forward?”

LGBTQI refugees living in East Africa face major challenges in the pursuit of sustainable income and opportunities for personal and professional fulfillment. LGBTQI persons, whether refugees or not, face constant discrimination in Kenyan society and around the world, and we are often denied certain opportunities based our sexual identity alone. The Couch sits down with a member of our community who has found ways to circumvent these obstacles and create opportunities for himself and his fellows.

The Couch is a web series created by Nature Network that interviews guests, experts, and activists to explore issues that are of interest to LGBTQI refugees but are rarely talked about publicly. Host Raymond Brian, with co-hosts Chris Wasswa and Drake Mirrors, sit on The Couch with invited guests to hear what they have to say and share it with the community. Past episodes have addressed an array of LGBTQI topics ranging from Undetectable = Untransmittable (HIV) to what is appropriate for LGBTQI persons to wear to church. Episode 8, Human Rights, is particularly applicable to our audience in the wake of the the recent Kenyan court decision not to repeal the criminalization of homosexual acts.

Nelson Aswani is the 22 year old founder and CEO of TheDaviers7 Organization, a youth empowerment and media marketing company based in Kenya. He is a chef by profession, and was nominated as the Marketing and Brand Ambassador of club “LA” and is the Brand Ambassador for Graan Bill Tours. Nelson is also the manager of Mazar Band, a group of Gospel artists. He identifies as gay and lives in Nairobi.

The Couch airs every Sunday. Watch episode 10 below
