Pixar Studio Out Short film Gay

‘Out’, a new short film by Pixar Studio, features the studio’s first gay lead character

Pixar Studio is not new to making movies. Since they began in 1979, Pixar Studio has released 22 feature films earning 20 Academy Awards, 8 Golden Globe Awards, and 11 Grammy Awards.

The studio just made a giant leap, releasing their first movie with a gay character as the lead. Their latest short film, however, is centred around a gay character, Greg. According to CNN, Greg, the main character is afraid to tell his parents he’s gay. He is also worried that they will see a picture of him and his boyfriend when they come to help him move.

Steven Clay Hunter, who is popularly known for his work on Finding Dory and The Incredibles, was the writer and director of ‘Out’. The story is part of the Pixar’s Spark Shorts series, a program designed to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques, and experiment with new production workflows.

The 10-minute short film began streaming on Disney Plus on 22nd May 2020. But critics have also doubled-down on the movie. One Million Moms, an anti-LGBT organisation, have called for a boycott of the movie. As a response, Hunter told The Advocate that he is refusing to comment on the call for a boycott by One Million Moms. “I don’t like giving groups like that oxygen,” he said.

“We are part of the human story, and we’re not going anywhere. And we deserve to be seen and heard,” Steven added.
