Thousands Sign Petition to Demand Justice for Trans Women Assaulted in Recent Hate Crime

More than one hundred thousand persons have signed an ongoing petition demanding justice for three trans women who were victims of a hate crime. The trans women, Joslyn, Jaslene, and Eden, were “physically assaulted and robbed” in the early hours of August 17th, 2020 in Hollywood, California.

According to Them.Us, “Eden The Doll, Jaslene WhiteRose, and JoslynFlawless were robbed and physically assaulted while waiting for an Uber on Hollywood Boulevard in the early hours of Monday morning. Videos posted of the altercation online show a group of six men pulling a knife on them and stealing the victims’ purses, phones, and wallets. WhiteRose had a large electric scooter thrown at her by one of the assailants and was beaten unconscious.”

The petition on change.org says that “the girls begged for bystanders to call the police, more so when one of the girls was momentarily unresponsive, but all people did was record them on the ground and laugh at them.”

Them.Us reports that the LAPD is currently investigating the assault as a hate crime, although suspects have not yet been publicly identified. One suspect is described as a Black male who is around 25 years old and stands approximately six feet tall. He is said to have brown eyes and dark hair and was reportedly wearing black shorts and a matching tank top at the time of the attack.

“I know that I’m so privileged, because I am a YouTuber and because people know who I am, but this happens all the time to women like me who aren’t on social media,” Eden The Doll told Them.US. “We need this to stop.”

So far, at least 26 transgender or gender non-conforming persons have been killed or ‘fatally shot’ in 2020 with many more of such cases not being reported.

“All of the men involved and responsible for these inhumane acts of violence must be arrested, interrogated, and charged for assault, robbery, and attempted murder,” the petition reads. “Violence against all women should not be tolerated.”
