The competition, which launched on May 17 (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia or IDAHOBIT Day), received over 1,800 photographs from 387 photographers from all over the world. The jurors of renowned artists overseeing the selection felt that the photos from these three photographers captured the beauty, resilience and vibrancy of LGBT+ communities.
The winning photos are being featured on MTV’s billboard at 1515 Broadway in Times Square to celebrate Pride and to commemorate the Stonewall riots of June 28, 1969. They will also be featured in an outdoor exhibition at World Pride Copenhagen in a main square of the Danish capital and at exhibition spaces across the world.
“Not since the AIDS pandemic has the LGBT+ community been attacked and scapegoated at such record levels as we are seeing during COVID-19,” said Chris McCarthy, President, MTV Entertainment Group. “We at MTV Entertainment stand against all forms of hate and are proud to partner with All Out to highlight the queer voices of resistance, solidarity and hope.”
Matt Beard, Executive Director at All Out said, “LGBT+ communities around the world are facing a disproportionately negative impact from the global pandemic. The incredible photographic talent that this competition has attracted documents this journey of pain, brutality, hope and solidarity with eloquence and beauty. The photographs are an inspiration in the fight for global equality for all LGBT+ people.”
