Pride Afrique returns virtually on August 14th.

A broad coalition of African lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning and intersex (LGBTQI+) activists, continental grassroots organizations and allies are preparing for the second Pan African Virtual Pride.

Inaugurated last year during the pandemic lockdown, Pride Afrique returns this year once again as a virtual platform to celebrate and uplift LGBTQI+ persons and groups across the African continent and the diaspora. This year’s event will be held on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube on August 14 2021, under the theme “Stay The Night”. It will turn the camera inward to spotlight LGBT+ persons by showcasing how we have continued to exist in spaces despite the harsh realities of our various communities.

The event will feature key leaders from the regions share their stories of resilience that are aimed at inspiring others. Pride Afrique also calls on the queer community to participate in their ambitious collection of video stories spanning the continent.

Organisers have said this year’s event is 100% volunteer-driven prides itself and is community-led. The event will also highlight our personal stories through multiple digital media contents in diverse languages. It is intended to attract the participation and attendance of LGBTQI+ queer Africans, allies, and various institutions that care about the wellbeing of the LGBT+ community.

To participate in the video collection, visit the Virtual Pride Afrique recording booth here.

a) Upload a video of you sharing a story of your resilience to inspire other Afro-queer persons

b) Upload a video telling us about someone else (individual or group) whose resilience inspires you

You can also share your stories on social media with the hashtags #PrideAfrique2021 #StaytTheNight. Two Short Films will also be premiering on the YouTube channel on the week of 14 August 2021. These films are being co-created by Afro-queer storytellers across the continent. For more information, visit https://www.prideafrique.org
