Ifeakandu initially submitted a story called “God’s Children Are Little Broken Things” to A Public Space’s Writing Fellowships in 2014 and it received great reviews. This collection of nine short stories of queer male intimacy “is a book about love, about home, about loss, and about the power of sociopolitical forces in lives and relationships,” writes Arinze. “I am one among a new brigade of queer Nigerians writing about our lives.… My collection focuses on the lives of queer characters, many of whom know the humiliation and helplessness of poverty. Writing as an insider of that life, these characters are flesh and blood, and their hopes and loves are as real as their pain.”

“God’s Children Are Little Broken Things” is currently available for preorder here.

Born in Kano, Nigeria, in 1995, Arinze Ifeakandu is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is pursuing his Ph.D. at Florida State University.
