Openly gay Kenyan writer and The 2002 Caine Prize winner for African Writing; Kenneth Binyavanga Wainaina has proposed to his long-term Nigerian partner. The acclaimed African literary giant and founder of the Nairobi-based journal Kwani, broke the news via social media where he added that they will be living in South Africa where his Nigerian born partner will be studying.
He is, however, silent on the identity of the said Nigerian he has been dating for 6 years.He shared the news of his proposal on his Twitter handle on Wednesday:
I knelt down and asked my love for his hand in marriage two weeks ago. He said YES. We will be married in South Africa early next year. I am beside myself with excitement that he has agreed to spend the rest of his life with me.

Still gushing over the proposal, the acclaimed author heaped praise on his husband-to-be, saying he was a “gentle” person with the “most gorgeous heart;” and promised a grand reception in Nairobi. In response to the outpouring of messages on his Twitter feeds, he also hinted that there may be a Nigerian party sometime next year to celebrate his marriage.
