Elliot Page comes out as trans Umbrella Academy

Umbrella Academy star, Elliot Page, comes out as trans.

Oscar-nominated star of 2007 American coming-of-age comedy-drama, Juno and star of American superhero television series, The Umbrella Academy, Elliot page, has come out as trans. Yesterday, December 1, Elliot Page posted a coming-out note posted on Twitter and Instagram.

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” they shared online. “I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”

Elliot Page is a 33-year old Canadian actor and producer. They first became known for their role in the film and television series Pit Pony, for which they won a Young Artist Award, and for recurring roles in Trailer Park Boys and ReGenesis. They are now popular for their roles in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Inception,” and the Netflix series “Umbrella Academy.” Elliot Page also debuted as a director in 2019 with the documentary “There’s Something in the Water.

“[Elliot Page] has given us fantastic characters on-screen, and has been an outspoken advocate for all LGBTQ people. Elliot will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. We celebrate him. All trans people deserve to be accepted,” GLAAD tweeted.

Choreographer, Emma Portner, who married Page in 2018, also voiced support for Elliot. “I am so proud of [Elliot Page]. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much,” she posted online.

“I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better,” Elliot added.

Nick Adams, the director of transgender media at GLAAD, added: “He will now be an inspiration to countless trans and nonbinary people. All transgender people deserve the chance to be ourselves and to be accepted for who we are. We celebrate the remarkable Elliot Page today.”

Elliot will continue to play their role as Vanya Hargreeves in The Umbrella Academy. “Trans actors can and do play both trans and cisgender characters. I’m sure Elliot will continue to be brilliant in Umbrella Academy and many different types of roles in the future,” Nick Adams, director of transgender media at GLAAD, told Variety.
