Nine men arrested in Egypt for homosexuality

Egypt is the latest African country to arrest individuals on the basis of sexuality.

9 men were arrested at a private party in Alexandria for engaging in “debauchery” and homosexual activity, after the Head of the Alexandria Security Directorate, Mustafa al-Nimr, said their behavior was a threat to public security.

Egypt Independent is reporting that the police at Dekheila Police Station had received information that young men had frequently visited an apartment on Gameeya Street, Hanoville, in western Alexandria; claiming that it was used to host group-sex parties.

This is not the first time Egypt is in the news for arresting gay men. In September we reported that some men were arrested for waving a rainbow flag.

We will follow this story and provide updates.
