National Women’s Organizer in Ghana proposes that gay people be killed

In a recent broadcast discussion on Power FM Accra, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw — who is a veterinary doctor, and the National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana — suggested that gay people should be killed.

According to Pulse Ghana, she said this as a reaction to information on the show that an LGBT organisation was scheduled to host an international gathering in July 2020 in Ghana.

She also blamed the President, Nana Akufo-Addo for being behind in an attempt to influence the youth. “The visionless president wants to bring gays and lesbians to the country to influence our young ones into that bad act… Homosexuality is a disease. In veterinary you don’t have to condone homosexuality; you have to kill all animals that attempt same-sex mating. Why should we humans do that?” Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw added.

Notable figures in Ghana have been reacting to the news that the 5th Regional Conference of the Pan Africa International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association is set to hold in Accra this July.  Earlier, Ashanti regional chief Imam Sheihk Muumin Abdul Haroun, said he and other religious leaders in the country will stop the ‘demonic’ conference. Foh-Amoaning of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values is also asking the government to stop the conference.

The Pan Africa ILGA has not responded to the comments but The Rustin Times will follow the story and update accordingly. The 5th conference is set to be the first in West Africa with the theme, ‘SANKOFA: Looking Back to Our Roots – Reclaiming Our Rights.’ The organisation is the African region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) and strives to unify and strengthen LGBTIQ+ organising in Africa in order to challenge state legislation that impedes SOGIESC-related work.
